in-home health care

by Stacy Miers

With the increase in life expectancy rising each year, there comes the question of what happens when our parents and grandparents are no longer able to accomplish daily activities independently. In most households, both husband and wife are working to meet the obligations of a family.

So who is called upon to care for the elderly parents? A home health care agency can provide such a service and the idea is growing rapidly. In the late 1900’s, the cry-out for this type of service began when families were desperate to find a better way for those who were not in need of medical attention and wanted to remain in their homes.

Many agencies are available to provide care for both medical and non-medical patients right in the privacy of their homes. This is usually the most comforting process as the aging person does not take well to change in environment. It is best for them to remain in familiar surroundings unless conditions warrant otherwise.

The home health care agency offers this convenience for the senior as well as their families. The plan of care is individualized to meet the needs of the individual. Some agencies offer both live-in and day to day care. There are some instances where companionship is primarily the need but it varies in nature and a good agency will be able to provide all the elements.

In light of the situation, one might be interested in starting an agency. The home health care agency industry can be quite confusing so be clear and concise as to the full scope of the business. A business license would be necessary for your location.

It might be necessary for your employees to comply with the state regulations in regards to drug testing and criminal background checks. The more professional agencies might go even further and require psychological testing to insure that their employees are trustworthy and suited for this type of employment.

This experience can be a great one for the senior who gets to remain in their home and the family because they can have peace of mind in knowing that their loved one is receiving the assistance they need. The home health care agency industry has and will continue to provide a great service to the community and individuals.
